Co-parenting : A Realistic Outlook for Divorcing Parents

Divorce is an issue that affects each of us in one way or another and it can be difficult to make the transition.  However, it is especially hard for children to cope.  Due to that fact, the Tennessee State Legislature has passed a law that requires divorcing parents of minor children to attend a 4-hour parenting class.  Spero Counseling Services is now, proudly, offering a Court Approved Parenting Class that meets with the state's requirements.

The following areas will be covered within the class:

  • Divorce process and alternate dispute resolution

  • Nurturing the child/children's emotional development

  • Healthy and effective communication

  • Domestic violence

  • Child vs. Parental Roles

  • Healthy mechanisms for dealing with stress, descipline, and conflict

Classes will be held on the second Monday of every month from 4 PM to 8 PM and the second Saturday of every month from 8 AM to 12 PM - in the Spero Counseling Services office.

You must register for the class in advance to save your seat.  Your choice of dates for the class will be taken into consideration, however classes without 5 pre-registered participants will be cancelled, and prior notification will be given if a class is cancelled.  DO NOT attend the same class as your estranged spouse.

Things to remember about the class:

  • You must pre-register, by calling or emailing the office

  • You will be given a certificate of completion and the original will be filed with the court

  • DO NOT bring children

  • You must have $40 cash to enter the class

  • Please be on time, as the class will begin promptly at the scheduled time

  • Please park in the back of the bank building, come in the back door, there will be an elevator to your left, come to the 3rd floor and look for our sign on the wall.
